How the heck do you start as a mechanical engineer and end up in growth marketing?

I'm a problem solver at heart, and I love entrepreneurship. When I had the chance to start a company in my last year of university, I jumped at it. I quickly realized that developing a solution to a problem and making sure people knew about it were equally important. In fact, my startup's biggest problem wasn't that the idea wasn't good. It was that not enough people knew about it. That's when I developed an interest in marketing.

That venture eventually failed, but the lesson stuck with me: people need to know about the products you're building, and you need effective systems to stay profitable.

Turns out, I'm well suited to marketing. Everything I'd learned about systems in engineering applies directly: instrument it, find the constraint, and fix that first. Knowing that, I started working with B2B startups, finding ways to tell their story. What I found was that the majority of effort put into marketing campaigns was wasted on channels that no longer worked and on spend that could no longer be justified. Misspent budget means your story doesn't reach the right ears.

So if you've got a story to tell, let's make sure your budget puts it in front of the people who'll buy.
